Split: The Split Gourmet Expo-exhibition of city Split restaurants on the waterfront

In the organisation of ŠKMER, nine restaurants were presented on Saturday at the Split Gourmet Expo 2018. on the split waterfront. The exhibition of dishes and competition at the 30-foot table marked the beginning of the tourist season, and showed that Splitska gastro scene stepped out and came out of mediocrity. Dioclecian’s Wine House, the tavern Korta, Marvie Hotel, Food and Wine bar Zinfandel, Mediterraneo, Grain of salt, Mazzgoon, La Grotta and the Catering team of the Student center of the University of Split, prepared three courses and clearly presented how to does look quality and Imaginative Mediterranean gastronomy as a backbone of city of Split in terms of the leading Croatian tourist destination.

Overall, the title of the best went to a team of chefs of the Food and wine bar Zinfandel, while second was awarded the Grain Salt Restaurant and  the third place was a team of Mazzgoona.

Appetizers, main dishes and desserts were evaluated by experienced Dalmatian chefs Hrvoje Zirojević, Antun Nišević, Marija Lulić, Željko Neven Bremec, Goran Staničić and others, who were pleasantly surprised by the progress of the split gastro scene from the first Split Gourmet Expo held 2016. The 300-odd portion of the imaginative Mediterranean delicacies could be tasted and authentic creations of the best chefs of the younger generation.

“This is the perfect image of city of Split sent into the world. Much better we could experience the Mediterranean on the table than two years ago. I was thrilled. The split scene took to the next level and I see that the young, quality people who stand behind these plates did not travel to Ireland and Germany but they continued to improve and build a new gastronomic story of Split. It’s a good indicator of where our region is going. We are approaching Istria, western Europe. However, as far as the overall gastronomic scene in Split still needs to work on certain segments, which are, above all, common performances and complexity in promoting domestic cuisine, as well as leaving negative segments such as not respecting one another, which is, Unfortunately still present in our work and mentality “-said the experienced Croatian chef, Antun Nišević
